Polonca Trebše Programme descriptionUndergraduate study programme Environment offers courses and practical training in all the major fields of environmental sciences, such as water, soil and air pollution and their chemical, physical and biological effects, ecotoxicology, health aspects of environmental pollution, waste treatment and concenquences of waste disposal, measurement techniques for determining and monitoring pollution, environmental impact assesment, environmental sociology, psychology, economics and law. The objective of the study programme is to educate experts, capable of working on multidisciplinaty projects, concerning environment in industrial, legislative, executive and research fields on the local, national and international level. The study programme lasts eight semesters. The students have the opportunity to participate in the European credit transfer system (ECTS) as well as in research activities at several universities and research institutions in Slovenia and abroad. University of Nova Gorica grants the title Bachelor of Science in Ecology to students, who succesfully complete their study. Admission requirementsThe mandatory admission requirement is completion of a four-year secondary education programme and the national secondary school baccalaureate (matura). For those candidates, who finished secondary school before 1st June 1995, the entry requirement is positive four-year secondary school final examination. In the case of restricted matriculation the selection criteria comprise of overall result achieved in the national secondary school baccalaureate or final exame (60% points) and overall result achieved in the 3rd and 4th grade (40% points). Educational and professional goalsThe objective of the study programme is to educate experts capable of independent and comprehensive, practical and theoretical work in the fields of: environmental status assessment, environmental impact and risk assessment, environmental phenomena research, preparation and implementation of environmental monitoring, preparation and implementation of waste management, preparation, assessment and management of environment related investments, and preparation of strategic and operative plans for sustainable development. Access to further studiesGraduates can enter post-graduate programmes of Master of Environmental Science (MSc) and Doctor of Environmental Science (PhD), and other post-graduate programmes, according to the requirements issued by the respective institution of higher education in the pre-enrolment announcement for undergraduate and post-graduate study programmes. Examination and assessment regulationsKnowledge is assessed by written examinations, oral examinations, colloquiums and seminar papers. A mandatory prerequisite for taking an examination is successful completion of the subject requirements (i.e. the relevant exercises and seminar papers). An interim and a final report, which has to be presented and defended orally, is an integral part of a group research project. Final step of the study is comprised of oral presentation and defence of the diploma thesis in front of a three-members committee. Course structure diagram1. year
