Programme description
The Slovene Studies program is an undergraduate program
leading to a university degree. The program covers all
important topics in linguistics and literary studies as
available at the current stage of the development of Slovene
studies. The main areas of study are the Standard Slovene and stylistics, history of the Slovene language and
dialectology, older Slovene literature and oral tradition,
recent and contemporary Slovene literature, literary theory
and methodology, literary folklore, world literature. The elective courses include
general and cultural history, history of arts, Italian and
Friulian literature and literature by Slovenes living in Italy
and Austria.
Admission requirements
Admission to this program is open to students who:
- have passed the secondary school-leaving exam (matura)
- had completed any secondary school program before June 1, 1995
- have passed a vocational secondary school-leaving exam
(poklicna matura) and an exam in one of the matura subjects,
i.e. history, sociology, philosophy or psychology. The
selected subject must not be the same as one chosen for
poklicna matura.
If admission is subject to a quota, candidates with matura
will be selected based on the following criteria:
- overall achievement at the matura (60% of points)
- overall achievement in the third and the fourth year of
a secondary school (30% of points)
- grades achieved in Slovene in the third and the fourth
year of a secondary school (10% of points)
Candidates with poklicna matura will be selected based on the following criteria:
- overall achievement at the poklicna matura (60% of points)
- overall achievement in the third and the fourth year of
a secondary school (30% of points)
- grade achieved in a selected matura subject (10% of points)
Educational and professional goals
These courses aim to make students capable of understanding
and resolving complex issues related to the Slovene language
and literature seen as autonomous and unique phenomena. The
skills and knowledge acquired through these courses will make
students qualified to perform tasks such as research on
literary phenomena, research into the Slovene language,
editing of spoken and written communication, teaching of
Slovene in primary and secondary schools (for these jobs an
additional pedagogical module is required), teaching of
Slovene as a second language, writing of journalistic texts
and other essays, editorial work, other types of work within
publishing companies, documentary tasks, librarian tasks,
tasks related to theatre activities, animation in various
areas of culture and education of special groups (adults,
young unemployed people and the like).
Access to further studies
Graduates in Slovene studies may continue with graduate study
programs on condition that they meet the recommendations of
the university offering graduate studies.
